No-show
Definition
A no-show is a guest with a confirmed reservation who fails to arrive on the check-in date — without canceling in advance. Charged or not charged depending on the rate plan and policy.
What it tells you
No-show rates are smaller than cancellation rates but harder to predict (no warning). Patterns vary by segment — OTA bookings no-show more than direct; certain corporate segments almost never no-show.
How to track it
PMS records no-shows when the front desk closes the day. Track by segment, channel, and rate plan.
Where it fits
Combined with cancellation rate, no-shows determine the wash factor used in overbooking decisions. Strict cancellation policies (deposit required, non-refundable) reduce no-show exposure.
