PMS (Property Management System)
Definition
The core operational software used by hotels to manage reservations, check-in/out, room assignments, billing, and other front-of-house operations. The single source of truth for guest and reservation data. Examples: Hostware, SabeeApp, Previo, Fidelio, Protel.
What it tells you
The PMS choice is foundational. It dictates which other systems integrate easily, what data is available for analytics, and how operations flow. Modern PMSes are cloud-based and API-friendly; legacy systems are more locked-down.
How to track it
Not a metric — a system. Track PMS uptime, integration health, and data-quality issues.
Where it fits
PMS is the data backbone for every revenue-management activity. BI tools, RMS systems, channel managers, and CRM all depend on PMS data flowing reliably.
