PMS (Property Management System)
Definition
The core operational software used by hotels to manage reservations, check-in/out, room assignments, billing, and other front-of-house operations. The single source of truth for guest and reservation data. Examples: Hostware, Sabeeapp, Previo, Fidelio Opera, Protel.
What it tells you
The PMS choice is foundational. It dictates which other systems integrate easily, what data is available for analytics, and how operations flow. Modern PMSes are cloud-based and API-friendly; legacy systems are more locked-down.
How to track it
Not a metric — a system. Track PMS uptime, integration health, and data-quality issues.
Where it fits
PMS is the data backbone for every revenue-management activity. BI tools, RMS systems, channel managers, and CRM all depend on PMS data flowing reliably.
