Booking Velocity

Definition

Booking velocity is the rate at which bookings are coming in — typically expressed as bookings per day or room nights per day for a given future period. “This week’s velocity for next May is 18 room nights per day” means May is filling at that pace right now.

What it tells you

Velocity is the derivative of pace — pace tells you where you are, velocity tells you how fast. Accelerating velocity = demand is heating up; decelerating = demand is cooling. Compared to the velocity needed to hit budget, it answers “are we on track?”

How to track it

Computed from daily OTB snapshots. Some BI tools surface required-velocity-to-budget directly; others require manual computation.

Where it fits

The forward-looking decision base for short-term pricing and campaign moves. If required velocity is 25/day and actual is 12/day, the gap is the lever for a price drop, push, or group accept.
