Same Point YoY

Definition

Same Point YoY means comparing this year’s metric to last year’s equivalent week-position — not last year’s same calendar date. Thursday week 17 this year compares to Thursday week 17 last year.

What it tells you

Date-aligned YoY comparison breaks when day-of-week shifts year over year. Easter shifts. Holidays land on different weekdays. Same-point comparison normalizes for that.

How to track it

A few BI tools support it natively (Peaqplus does); for most, it requires manual computation.

Where it fits

Essential for any YoY analysis where day-of-week matters — city hotels with sharp weekday/weekend splits, weekend-driven properties, MICE-heavy operations.
